21 May Most young French adults will not travel abroad in 2020
21st May 2020 – Travel up to 100km within France is now permitted since the relaxation of lockdown measures began on 11th May. Asked about travel plans for the rest of 2020, Talingual’s WIllingness to Travel survey shows that two thirds of young French adults will not travel abroad this year. Less than one quarter will travel abroad in the summer months of June, July and August.
22% willing to travel in Summer 2020
The chart above shows that 22.1% of young French adults are willing to travel abroad in the summer months of June, July and August. A further 11.8% are willing to travel after the summer months. Taken together, just one third (33.8%) of young French adults are willing to travel abroad during 2020.
Younger are more willing to travel
Figure 2 shows that 24.4% of the respondents aged 18-24 years are willing to travel abroad in the summer months. Those aged 25-34 years are less enthusiastic with only 18.8% willing to travel abroad in June, July or August. Within each age group however, there is a significant majority who will not travel abroad at all in 2020.
Men are more likely to travel in 2020

About this survey
This survey was conducted online in French between 17th May 2020 and 19th May 2020. A total of 204 responses was received from respondents in France aged between 18 and 34 years. 119 respondents were aged 18-24 and 85 were aged 25-34. 107 respondents were female and 97 were male. The survey comprised one question to which respondents could choose only one answer.
Talingual is conducting a series of Willingness to Travel surveys during May 2020 to better understand how COVID-19 will impact the willingness of candidates to relocate for a new role. The total dataset will comprise approximately 600 responses from young adults in Germany, the United Kingdom and France.
